Lessons Learned Looking Back: Strategies for Successful Living
Published in Paperback by Broadman & Holman Publishers (February, 2001)
Authors: Todd E. Linaman and Laura Z. Sowers
Average review score:

Life Impacting Wisdom and Encouragement!
I found this book to be a tremendous blessing. The many varied scenarios presented will surely have a touch point on every reader's life. Also, this diversity makes this the kind of resource that will be of timeless value as the book is revisited in future readings and life passages.

One of the most striking features of this resource is how well the scriptural references are applied in each scenario illustrated. This approach brings life and true meaning to biblical references in a simple and easy to understand manner that results in powerful life impacting revelation. As a result this book is a tremendous tool for the un-churched as well. By clearly identifying how God's Love, Grace and Mercy satisfy every need the reader is drawn closer to God, His blessing and His eternal salvation.

Timeless value with life impacting biblical application!!!!

I Want My Kids to Read This Book!
As my kids grow up and begin making their own decisions, it's hard to know how much advice to give. This book is a great way to gently offer good, solid counsel about life to young adults without preaching. The stories about real people captivated me and helped me understand the principles Dr. Linaman and Ms. Sowers conveyed. I appreciated the blend of biblical truth, sensible counseling information and "uncommon" sense. I'm giving it to my grown kids with one piece of advice - read it!

One Lit Torch
Published in School & Library Binding by Lit Torch Publishing ()
Author: Todd A. Sinelli
Average review score:

A Texas-sized endorsement from a Houston reader.
One Lit Torch is a beautifully crafted book in both thought and image. Its stories encourage readers to seek true success through optimism, love, and compassion. Its lessons of love are appropriate for readers of all ages, and they will teach all the hope in living the Golden Rule.

Mr. Sinelli's passion for compassion, his emphasis on sharing these stories, and his illustrator's simple yet engaging style will have even the most jaded reader ready to take the beginning steps in lighting the torches of others around them. These new torches of optimism, truth, and beauty will give hope, peace, and fulfillment to an often dark and greedy word. And we will all come out better and brighter in return.

An inspirational book of parables about life and happiness.
Beautifully written and designed, "One Lit Torch" calls itself a children's book, but upon opening it, we know better. This is a simple, innocent book written for everyone - all who have battled with the fear that their dreams were just too darned big to accomplish. It offers both encouragement for those whose priorities extend past moneymaking and success and perspective for those seeking to understand how their lives can make a difference. In a series of short parables, we are introduced into the lives of people who have dreamed big, cared much and made their lives count. This charming book illustrates the enormous amount of power we hold over the emotions and hearts of others. "One Lit Torch" is a gift book that gives more than just a handsome addition to the bookshelf - properly read and appreciated, it makes a valuable gift to the heart as well.

Simple Tales of Great Value
Mr. Sinelli has created seven endearing tales of sharing, initiative, and optimism. These stories remind us of those essential human values which are important. I was especially move by the last tale, "The Corridor Theory," which emphasizes the importance of "beginnings". Personally, this book reminded me of that basic tenet that states life is not about what you get rather about what you give. Though this book will be appreciated by people of all ages, I would especially recommend it for young children.

Ships of the Star Fleet: Akyazi-Class Perimeter Action Ships

I wish there were more of these...
I wish that there were more of these books out there. I was suprised to discover a whole new starship class I've never before heard of. A must have for Star Trek fans all over!

Excellent but hard to find non-canon series
The books in this series really go into the nuts and bolts, almost reading like current military texts. It non-canonical for those who care what Paramount thinks. I highly reccomend it. Also, please be advised that they have their own timeline, similar to, but not identical to Paramounts. It also ties in w/ the original Tech Manual. If anyone has a web address for the publisher, Mastercom Data Center, please post it or email me.

Pleased....but saddened
Since checking this page, I now learn this book is a stand alone issue. How sad. If similar publications had been produced, I would have puchased the entire series. A brilliant idea, and extremely well presented. A serious must for anyone interested in Star Trek.

The Supercommandos: First Special Service Force, 1942-1944 An Illustrated History
Published in Hardcover by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (01 January, 2000)
Author: Robert Todd Ross
Average review score:

Finally -- A 'true' standard for the 1st SSF
With his devotion to detail and accuracy Mr. Ross has easily set a new standard for anyone interested in unit histories. "The Supercommandos: First Special Service Force, 1942-1944 An Illustrated History" details the unit history of the First Special Service Force, unquestionably the most elite and little known combat infantry/line unit in the Second World War. Mr. Ross' utilization of Force after-action reports and personal accounts provides a balanced, detailed and indepth narrative, which comprises all aspects of the unit: conception; the recruiting of both US and Canadian forces; training at Fort William H. Harrison in Helena, Montana; overseas deployments; combat; the units break-up in Southern France, and the redeployment of Force survivors. Coupled with this narrative is an astounding assortment of original World War II photograghs, many of which are the most remarkable yet attained by any Force historian in more than fifty-five years. Mr. Ross also capitalizes on many of this units unusual characteristics by providing separate photo sections for specific or various topics: Force weapons; equipment; insignia; uniforms; etc. Also included are many of the original documents and historical facsimiles pertaining to the FSSF, most of which have been unseen for half a century.

For any World War II veteran, historian, re-enactor, or modern Special Force vet researching his/her lineal ancestor, this book is an absolute addition for your personal library.

One of the forerunners of the Green Berets
If only one word could be used to describe Todd Ross's book the Supercommando's, that word would have to be awesome! Ross's book is the most definitive work about the unit known as the 1st Special Service Force since Robert Burhan's book War History of the North Americans. The book contains many never seen before photographs of the force and is worth the price of the book alone. Maps are in vivid color, and are very easy to read and understand. The Force equipment and weapons are authentic and not cheap reproduction look a likes. A real highlight of the book is Ross's attention to detail and accuracy. Ross is to be commended for the outstanding layout of the book and its smooth transition from one point to the next. This book traces the force from its inception to its heartbreaking disbandment and shows the force for what it really was, a tough, daring, resouceful, highly specialized special force that had few equals in WWII. This book dispells the myth created by the highly entertaining but highly inaccurate movie the "Devils Brigade and the book by the same name, No Dirty Dozen here! This is a must have book for those interested in Special Forces, and military history. This book is a must have reference for the professor of military history and historians. This is not a book to be read once and then put away, this is a reference book to be used over and over again. If you have Robert Burhan's book and Ross's book the Supercommandos, you have the history, expolits and unparalleled view of the 1st Special Service Force. I salute Mr. Ross for a job well done!

THE SUPERCOMMANDOS, First Special Service Force, 1942-1944,
This is a book about the unit with which I served in World War II. It's the book for which veterans of the Force, like me, have been waiting since Robert Burhans wrote the first Force history in 1947. It's a true successor to Burhans because it contains none of the bombast, mistruths and basic errors of many other writings. Author Todd Ross, in his first book, has proven what a careful, conscientious, and honorable researcher he is, and the book amply demonstrates that. During World War II, there was no other elite unit as unique as the First Special Service Force, if one were to consider only the fact that its Combat Echelon contained trained soldiers from the Canadian Army. They served alongside their U. S. Army compatriots, wearing the same uniform, totally integrated. When I and a fellow Canadian Sergeant walked into our pyramidal tent in 5th Company, Second Regiment, we found two trained American volunteers awaiting our arrival.Within days, it was hard to tell American from Canadian as we learned to parachute together, laughed over trying to integrate basic drill commands and actions. In his text, Ross covers this uniqueness, before moving on to our weapons training, demolitions, mountain climbing, skiing, unarmed combat, the use of German weapons, and the range of other training elements, including development of the Weasel, the first truly effective over-the-snow vehicle. He follows our path into combat, with the dry run at Kiska when the Japanese left before we and others landed. Our sudden shift to Italy: fighting in the mountains leading to Cassino;our 98 days without relief at Anzio holding almost one quarter of the entire Beachhead;the road to Rome--the first Allied troops to enter the Eternal City in force, two days before Normandy; our role in leading the invasion of S. France; and the saddest day of all when the Force was disbanded in December, 1944, in S. France. This is an illustrated history, with photos by Robert Capa, famed WWII photographer, as well as many others; maps which give battle details, charts, reports,an extensive bibliography, and a host of color plates showing our uniforming and equipment. This is the best-appearing and most complete book on the Force ever published. As veterans who lived through the life of the Force, we have nothing but praise for it, and heartily recommend it to Amazon.com readers.

Tales & Irreverencies of a Country Parson
Published in Hardcover by Western Americana Publ (August, 1997)
Author: Eugene F. Todd
Average review score:

The very best!
I am a college professor (Ph.D.) and newly confirmed into the Episcopal Church. I read this book while the sermon was being preached at the Catedral. The book was simply more timely and enjoyable than the sermon I was supposed to be listening to. This book is informative, hilarious, poignant and beautifullys crafted. I read it aloud to my book club.

You'll never read a book quite like this one!
You'll never read a book quite like this! Its the story of a country boy from a Wyoming ranch who grows up to become an eloquent and elegant Episcopal rector __ but never loses his country charm and humor. His tales become classic Wyoming history as he writes about the myriad of colorful characters who weave themselves into the fabric of his life: a bordello "madam" who insists on holy communion on her deathbed, a sheepherder who claims himself as a "soul brother" to the ordained shepherd of the flock, and drunk flamboyant "Gen. Gilly" at a disastrous Memorial Day service in the cemetary. Gene Todd is a gifted story teller. His writing is never dull, with country humor on every page. You'll laugh 'til you cry at his shenanigans. Like snooping out the county morals as a member of the sheriff's "God squad" at a striptease joint. You'll weep with him as he beautifully crafts the poignant life-and-death tales of extraordinary people he meets along life's way, including his own saga of pain and failure. Sustained by faith and a triumphant spirit,Gene Todd prevails thru and the thick and thin of it all __ including a devastating family tragedy at the very end of the book. Indeed, his "reverency" comes shining through as, above all, he retains his relevancy to life. This is the kind of an intimate clergyman's story we seldom hear which puts a courageous human face on the ministry of the church in our modern American West. (Tweet Kimball, Cherokee Ranch and Castle Foundation, Colorado.)

Required reading for every seminarian.
This book should be required reading in every seminary so that future ministers can catch a glimpse of what to expect in the contemporary church of today, particularly in the American West, apart from what its purported to be in the ivory towers. Hopefulluy, prospective clergy can cultivate the grace and humor of a Gene Todd not only to survive __ but to gallantly thrive amid the constant drama and trauma of human life swirling around them. (Col. Jack Richards-Retired U.S. Air Force Chaplain.)

How to Do Everything With Your Imac
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Osborne Media (28 December, 1999)
Author: Todd Stauffer
Average review score:

Very helpful
I bought this book 2 days after purchasing my IMac, and boy was it helpful! It takes you through all the steps you need to REALLY get your machine up and running! This is a must have for people who are new to the Mac and work on PCs mostly.

DO NOT Buy an iMac Without Buying This Book, Too!
I have had my Indigo iMac for 1 1/2 years now. I bought
several beginner books, being a computer 'newbie'.
This book is so fantastic (it's big), but even if you don't
have time to read it cover-to-cover, you can jump into
any section you want to learn about, and you will never
feel frustrated learning to use the computer. It is fantastic,
everything concise, clear, and above all the MOST
comprehensive iMac manual I have found! A must have,
just amazing. It's got it all!

Good "How To Book".
Just as the title says this book provides you with instructions on how to do virtually everything with your iMac (hey, somebody can probably think of a useful iMac job it does'nt address). "Todd" starts off with setup and goes from there, even presenting options in peripherals (external drives), and software (utilities). This book is basic enough to be understood by a new iMac user and goes far enough to probably help a "techie". I initially bought this book to help me get to know the machine before it was delivered--now I keep my copy next to my iMac for reference.

Path of Totality

I felt every emotion!
Upon starting this book I knew I was on to something special. I could not put it down. Path of Totality was gripping, intense and gritty. As other reviews have stated, I felt sadness, terror, and triumph. I am looking forward to the next work from Mr. Noker and hope that it comes out soon.

You won't want to stop reading this book!
Path of Totality grabbed me from the very start and wouldn't let me go. It filled me with every emotion and made me feel for the well written characters. The author has a very poetic writing style that left me wanting to re-read chapters again and again. I didn't want to stop reading this book. I look forward to more from Todd C. Noker!

Damn Fine Stuff
I havent read a book this freakin good since I got out of prison. I loved it, Todd Noker keep up the good work!! A book about loss and the loss of family and then family comes back again.

Start Your Engines : A Countdown Book
Published in Hardcover by Callaway Editions (September, 2000)
Author: Mark Todd
Average review score:

One for the boys
My young nephews love - love! - this book. It reminds me of the Richard Scarry books that I was into as a kid. This is a numbers book--perhaps Mark Todd will do a storybook next time. After all, his audience are getting older every day!

Girls like it too
Guess what? My 17 month old daughter loves Start Your Engines as much as the boys do. She has something that she does for each page (i.e. when "five foxes test the shocks" she bounces up and down; and when "four flamingoes fix a flat" she says "UH OH!!"). It's a great book with which to interact.

Awesome
This book rocks! The illustration is wonderful. Super fun to read, and easy for kids of all ages to relate to.You can look at the pictures over and over and still see something new each time. Its the kind of book you want to keep for your whole life, and look back to fondly when you're an adult. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Staying Cool
Published in Mass Market Paperback by HarperTorch (November, 2002)
Author: Catherine Todd
Average review score:

witty and charming summer read
STAYING COOL is a light, charming summer read; the charaters are well-developed, the plot moves along nicely, and the author provides witty insights into life after 40. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

refreshingly witty and intelligent story
One woman's search for reingaging with life, five years after her husband's death. Has an engrossing mystery, wonderful characters and a bit of a love story to with a bon fide HEA. I loved it and am now going to start on her other book, Making Waves.

A delightful, engrossing read
What a good book! I bought it in an airport bookshop, thinking it looked like good summer reading fare, and it was, but richer than that, too. It's very well written, with wit, a likable main character, an absorbing plot and a satisfying conclusion. It also explores issues of loss and family history that readers can relate to. A very pleasant surprise.

Tahoe Deathfall
Published in Paperback by Thriller Press (01 August, 2001)
Author: Todd Borg
Average review score:

A tremendous read from a great writer
Todd Borg is a Minnesota native who followed the lure of lakes in the mountains to live in Lake Tahoe. He has created the art-loving detective, Owen McKenna, in his action-packed series beginning with Tahoe Death FALL, which was published in 2001. He quickly followed his maiden book with Tahoe Blowup. Thriller Press launched its business with Todd's Tahoe Death Fall, which was an astute decision.

Fourteen-year-old Jennifer Salazar, a wealthy young heiress, shows up at Owen McKenna's office to hire him as a private investigator because she feels the death of her twin sister nine years before is no accident. She has the I.Q. of a genius, is set to inherit almost four hundred million dollars, and is rightly convinced someone is out to kill her. McKenna, his Harlequin Dane named Spot, and his girlfriend, an exotic beauty who is an entomologist named Street, believe Jennifer. Her claim is verified everywhere they turn as dead bodies from the past and present speak of a family full of evil secrets and unsuspecting victims:

"'That's what they say,' Immanuel said.
'What do you mean?'
'Just what I said. That's what they say.'
'You don't believe it?'
'Put it this way,' the old man said wearily. He leaned his head back and rested it
against the pillow. 'There is something wrong with the woman. She is disturbed.
No doubt about it. But a paranoid schizophrenic needing to be locked up? I doubt it.'"

Todd Borg writes a rip-roaring, suspense-driven mystery that keeps the reader glued to his book until the final breathtaking denouement. His characters are superbly crafted, especially his dog Spot, who looms over the action like a benevolent giant, finally risking his life when necessary. Borg knows how to spin a yarn, and he is adept at utilizing every nook and cranny of the Lake Tahoe area as his backdrop. Tahoe Death Fall is an outstanding effort from a true up-and-comer in the mystery business. Borg is able to send shivers up our spine and make us think twice about checking all the doors and windows before we go to bed at night, as well as looking for skeletons in our ancestry. A tremendous read from a great writer.

Awesome!
I picked up this book at a local (to Lake Tahoe) independent bookstore. It is a treat of a book and as a local to Lake Tahoe, I appreciated that all the references were accurate. Owen and Spot, along with girlfriend Street, were dynamite in this book. The book is well written and I was hard pressed not to stay up all night finishing it. I have the second book which I am anxious to start. Well written, well research, and a great story! I urge others to pick it up and give it a read!
